The Local History and Ethnography Collection presents the past life of the settlement with a rich historical past. In addition to its ethnographic memorabilia, it is intended to commemorate the craftsmen and professions of Gönc.
It gained its current form in 2018, when the exhibition was renovated, thematized, and the exhibition space was renovated. The building located in the back part behind the Hussite house on the street front was once a residential building, which has functioned as a local history collection since the late 1980s – already under municipal ownership. The exhibition was initially organized by the enthusiasm and individual interest of amateur collectors and collection organizers, which also proves the existence of community memory and a kind of interest in the past in Gönc. Since the two rooms proved to be small, it reached its final form with the help of professionals and enthusiastic helpers and the support of the Gönc City Government.
In the rich material of the exhibition, besides the household and agricultural tools that are several hundred years old, hemp work is presented, and the processes of weaving and spinning are presented – through objects of significant ethnographic value. The folk traditions of washing come to life, and the world of beliefs comes to life. In addition to the contemporary drinking culture, the tools and workpieces of the once famous Gönc craftsmen – potters, coopers, gingerbread makers and candle casters, bootmakers, and belt makers – are brought into interactive proximity. The exhibited panels and thematically arranged souvenirs comprehensively depict the life of the bourgeois Gönc of the time – the late 19th century – early 20th century. In the stable at the end of the building, you can find household tools, agricultural, industrial and commercial past relics.
