MAIL ART !!!

The Huszita House and Local History Collection Museum of Gönc announces, for the first time, an international mail art competition titled “HOUSES and FORTRESSES.”

“The monumentally restored Huszita House of Gönc is one of the small, fortress-like stone houses with tiny windows dating from the 17th–18th centuries, located in a uniquely structured part of the town of Gönc. Its origin is highly debated: according to some assumptions, it was once built and inhabited by Hussites, while other views claim that its style can be traced back to Saxon predecessors. The exceptionally well-defendable stone building features an elevated living floor, finely carved stone-framed window openings, and its street façade is decorated with asymmetrically placed stone elements. Its unique character is further enhanced by the vaulted tunnel system running beneath the building. Its former function is supported by its geographical location, due to the significant passing traffic.”

The exhibition showcasing the submitted works will open on Friday, September 12, 2025, at 4:00 PM in the “clean room” of the Huszita House. All art enthusiasts and interested visitors are warmly welcome. The exhibition will be freely accessible from September 12 to October 15 during the museum’s opening hours. At a later date, the artworks will also be exhibited in the gallery of the Gönci Barackvirág Art Model Kindergarten.

We welcome works sent by post, created using any free fine art technique. All submitted works will be exhibited regardless of shape, size, or quantity. The submitted artworks will not be awarded or returned; they will become the property of the Huszita House Museum of Gönc, thereby enriching the cultural heritage of the town. Photographs and video recordings of the exhibition and the artworks will be published on the museum’s social media page (facebook.com/huszitahaz) and on the official website of the town of Gönc (gonc.hu).

Artists are kindly requested to include their postal address and email address on the submitted artworks.
